Scientists find new cultivation system to battle parasite causing diarrhoea
4 December 2017
Research led by Dr. Anastasios Tsaousis and Prof. Martin Michaelis of the School of Biosciences has established the first long-term cultivation system for Cryptosporidium at a laboratory scale. Based on this newly developed system, the team has introduced several new techniques to investigate the biology of the parasite. This work offers new insights into the lifestyle of the parasite, generates essential knowledge and provides new platforms for anti-parasitic drug development.
This research is a collaboration between several laboratories in Kent. The results are now published in the International Journal of Parasitology (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0020751917303429).
