Royal Society of Biology accreditation for MSc programmes

6 April 2017

We are delighted to announce that the Royal Society of Biology has accredited our taught MSc programmes:

MSc Biotechnology and Bioengineering

MSc Cancer Biology

MSc Drug Design

MSc Infectious Diseases

MSc Reproductive Medicine: Science and Ethics

The Royal Society of Biology (RSB) accreditation scheme identifies course of particular quality and rigour, and ones that provide the knowledge and skills required by employers in the life sciences sector.  For students, this means that they can be confident that our courses meet the needs of employers and can be assured of the educational quality of our provision.

In awarding accreditation, the panel scrutinized our courses, met with staff and students and inspected our teaching and research facilities. The panel noted several areas or good practice, including the interactive style of teaching, the development of research skills, the academic advice and pastoral care available, and the ability of students to use cutting-edge research equipment as part of their course. They also praised Kent’s strategy for MSc-level research project provision, which recently led to a research article published in the open-access, international peer-reviewed journal PLoS One.

The Master’s accreditation supplements existing RSB accreditation of our undergraduate provision, so that all of our taught programmes are now RSB-accredited at either standard, advanced or Master’s level. At the time of writing, the University of Kent is the only institution with MSc programmes accredited by the Royal Society of Biology.
