50th anniversary History Projects

In Kent's 50th anniversary year, a team of students from the School of History is working closely with the University’s Archivist to reflect on the University’s past. Working on a range of projects which trace Kent’s continued development over the past 50 years, their work will focus on five main areas: the Gulbenkian Theatre; the student experience past and present; teaching and learning; the University’s expansion; ‘Kent in the media’.

Kent in Europe

With many voices calling for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, Kent, which prides itself on being ‘the UK’s European university’, is a vital stakeholder in the country’s decision. In its 50th anniversary year, the University celebrates a learning environment which supports internationalisation and promotes freedom of movement within a common economic space.

50th Festival

50th Festival

Kent’s 50th Festival on 4-6 September will be the culmination of the University’s anniversary year. Over 800 alumni and friends will be returning home to Kent from around the globe to celebrate the past 50 years, and look to the next 50. The stage is set for an incredible finale to our anniversary year - will you be there?

QI comes to Kent

Popular quiz show QI came to Kent in February 2015, in a special one-off edition of the show focusing on Quite Interesting things about the county of Kent and its University. Chaired by presenter Sandi Toskvig OBE (Honorary Graduate, 2014), the all-star panel was made up of some of the titans of British comedy: Alan Davies ( Keynes, 1984), Phill Jupitus, Jo Brand (Honorary Graduate, 2006) and Harry Hill (Honorary Graduate, 2014). John Lloyd CBE (Honorary Graduate, 2012), creator and producer of QI, introduced and produced the show on the night.
