Service Excellence was chosen as the first enhancement theme for the Excellence Initiative. Wide spread staff commitment and determination created the impetus that would ensure the success of this collaborative programme. It was launched with a conference open to all members of the administrative teams. Colleagues returned to their units and identified specific projects which they identified as likely to make a positive difference to their student facing operations. The whole team was then reunited at a Liquid Café where projects were presented and which provided the opportunity for further discussion. 20 projects were undertaken and their outcomes presented at a final event.
The programme showed that, despite being spread out across different campuses, a large team can unite around a common goal and together create and apply its own highly imaginative programme. This successful stage of the Excellence Initiative was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2013 in the category for “Outstanding Departmental Administrative Team”.
