Support
This section is intended to help web authors at the University of Kent build their websites and web-enabled tools.
Self help
The first place to start is the online knowledgebase. The knowledgebase provides three major functions:
- Solutions to common problems. The knowledgebase includes a wealth of answers to frequently asked questions and issues. A good search facility is provided in the knowledge base to help you solve your problem quickly.
- Tutorials and guides. The knowledgebase is also the place to find tutorials on many web-enabled tools for web authors such as the Dreamweaver snippets, contribute assets, SiteStat, the online forums and many others.
- Advice and suggestions. The knowledgebase also contains helpful advice, suggestions and guidelines for web authors developing their sites. This includes information on styling content, making your site accessible and many more. The best advice for web authors is compiled in the top 20 web author tips available from this page.
Help from your peers
We have several active support community forums where web authors can discuss and share tools, ideas and issues. The forums are also monitored by web support staff.
Training
The training section describes what is available to help you understand the tools available and develop your web authoring skills.
Asking for advice
Who to request help from depends on your query or problem. The requesting help section lists the most usual contacts. For most querys however, the web support is the best place to start.
Requesting a service or development
You can request that the IS Web Team upgrade your site for you or develop additions to your site. A complete list of the products and services provided and their costs are located in the products and services section.
Publishing contract
The IS Web Team also offers a publishing contract service for departments without their own web authors. For a monthly fee, the webteam will publish your content for you. For more details about this service, please read the publish contract page.
