The VALUE Programme starts again
Highly acclaimed platform to build success at Stage 1
January 2008
Are you really worried about Stage 1 Exams? Have you found aspects of your course unexpectedly difficult? Are you maintaining good progress on your course, but concerned about maintaining this progress across the rest of the year? Do you feel it’s essential that you have some more help with your Stage 1 Exams? If you experience these type of concerns, then please consider joining the VALUE Programme.
We are providing VALUE for the eighth year, as a partnership programme for Stage 1 (First Year) students. We work with eleven departments in the faculties of Social Science, and Science, Technology and Medical Studies, at both Canterbury and Medway.
VALUE stands for value-added learning in university education. It offers -
- Structured subject-specific revision sessions just before Stage 1 Exams (weeks 24 -26) - and we also give help with study skills relating to revision and exams.
- Support in dealing with Stage 1 results, in late June/July, is provided.
- We run a one-day VALUE Student Conference just before the start of Stage 2.
This 3 step VALUE process of exam preparation, results support and looking ahead to Stage 2 (Year 2) has helped many students over the years, and has been widely – and enthusiastically – appreciated by our students. We have a success rate of 95% + retention in Higher Education, and 80% + transfer to Year 2. Of the 161 VALUE students at Canterbury last year, 146 (91%) have now transferred to Stage 2.
So if you’d really value an extra opportunity to enhance your progression, apply now! Please see www.kent.ac.uk/uelt/learning/value for a full description of the programme, and a simple on-line application form.
Please note the programme is only for Stage 1/Year one students in participating departments. If you are in another year of study, or your department is not participating in VALUE, and you would appreciate some further support with your learning development, then please e-mail learning@kent.ac.uk for Canterbury; and learningmedway@kent.ac.uk for Medway.
