VALUE Programme 2011-2012

The VALUE Programme will be running again in 2011-12, following another successful year in 2010-11. VALUE will run at both Canterbury and Medway. For students from participating schools, recruitment and interviews will take place from the early part of the Spring term. Further information on VALUE.

We are now nearing the end of the 2010-2011 VALUE Programme; VALUE 2010-2011 will finish with the one-day VALUE Student Conference on Friday 23rd September. The Conference is intended to provide a platform of useful and relevant skills and information to support Stage 2 and Stage 3. All those progressing to Stage 2 will have received e-mail about this event. Please see the Canterbury Conference programme.
We hope to see you at the VALUE Student Conference on Friday September 23rd, and wish you all the very best of luck for your studies next academic year and beyond!

Personnel changes to the team in the Student Learning Advisory Service

Louise Frith will be joining the Student Learning Advisory Service’s team on the Medway campus. Louise replaces Christine Eastman. Figuring out the future: new maths and statistics support for all students

The Student Learning Advisory Service (SLAS) in UELT has won an award of £6000 from sigma, the centre for excellence in university-wide provision of mathematics and statistics support. The funding will be used to provide dedicated maths and stats learning support within SLAS, open to Kent students from all disciplines and all levels of study. The programme is being run with the support and participation of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS). Read more…

For some students, there may be other events in Phase C week, 20th September - 24th September. We will notify you by e-mail if this is the case.
Please could all students check their Kent e-mail on a regular basis. We will continue to use e-mail to send you important information.

New Royal Literary Fellow for Medway

The Student Learning Advisory Service in UELT is very pleased to announce that Simon Levack is the new Royal Literary Fellow at the Medway Campus.
Simon Levack is a novelist and short story writer. To date he has published four books: Demon of the Air (2004), Shadow of the Lords(2005), City of Spies(2006) and Tribute of Death(2007). All are historical mysteries, set in Precolumbian Mexico on the eve of the Spanish conquest. His short fiction has appeared in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and his short story “Jade Skirt” was selected for The Mammoth Book of Best British Mysteries(2008). His first novel, Demon of the Air, won the Debut Dagger Award, given by the UK Crime Writers' Association, in 2000. His novels have been published in the United States, Spain and Russia as well as the UK, and have been widely praised: in Britain, the Guardian called Demon of the Air “A most rewarding read”, while in the US, Publishers’ Weekly awarded starred reviews to both his first two books. He has published some non-fiction, including ghost-written articles in the specialist legal press and an article in The Codex, published by the Mesoamerican Society at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology. He is married with one son and lives in Kent

We are now nearing the end of the 2008 VALUE Programme; VALUE 2008 will finish with the one-day VALUE Student Conference on Friday 26th September. The Conference is intended to provide a platform of useful and relevant skills and information to support Stage 2 and Stage 3. All those progressing to Stage 2 will have received e-mail about this event. Please see the Conference programme.
For some students, there may be other events in Phase C week, 22nd September - 26th September. We will notify you by e-mail if this is the case.
If you have any concerns or issues regarding your progression to Stage 2 please contact us by e-mail, value@kent.ac.uk . Alternatively, please call in and see us when you are back at the University.
Please could all students check their Kent e-mail on a regular basis. We will continue to use e-mail to send you important information.

As you will probably be aware, the majority of the results for Stage 1 Examinations should be available in early July. All those students within the Faculty of Social Sciences will receive their results by 7th July. We will be monitoring your results carefully, and contacting you by e-mail or 'phone to discuss any issues that arise relating to progression or re-sits.
However, please get in touch straight away if there's anything you would like to discuss, or any help you need! E-mail value@kent.ac.uk if there's anything you need to ask.
Please don't forget, if you have changed your contact details at all for the Summer period, e.g. changed your alternative e-mail address or your mobile 'phone no., do let us know.

Phase A of the VALUE Programme is now over, and Stage 1 Examinations are ongoing. If there is anything you need to discuss with us, please get in touch. Please email value@kent.ac.uk .
Once the examination results are available, in general from late June/early July onwards, we will be in touch with you all individually to discuss or confirm results (VALUE Phase B). We will also be in touch with you over the summer concerning VALUE Phase C: please note the VALUE Student Conference will be on Friday, 26th September.

Walk the University's labyrinth
Monday 28th April 10am-3pm (last entry 2pm) Upper Senate Chamber
An opportunity to walk the University's labyrinth. Come for a short introductory talk (every hour, on the hour, 10am–2pm), then walk the labyrinth and stay for as long as you wish.
All welcome. There are some restrictions to wheelchair access due to the nature of the labyrinth, but alternatives are available: Come and see what’s on offer. Please also note that there will be a second opportunity this term on Monday 2nd June, 10am-1.45pm (last entry 1pm).

Applications for VALUE 2008 are now closed. In consultation with participating departments, we are now finalising the VALUE Time Table. Students who have applied to VALUE should hear from us by the end of term, and we will also be publishing a draft time table in Week 24.
