Jonathan is the second RLF Fellow to join the University. He follows Gillian McClure, who has been based in the School of English at Canterbury since academic year 2005-2006. Both Fellows bring a diverse background in writing to their work supporting and developing students’ academic writing at the University. Insights gained through narrative, travel writing, children’s literature and journalism are applied to some of the underlying issues of academic writing such as getting started on a text, clarity, structure and developing a distinctive ‘voice’…

Allia Wilson, Manager of the Student Learning Advisory Service, commented that the provision of two RLF Fellows at Kent was, “…a unique opportunity for students at both Medway and Canterbury to benefit from the rich and dynamic experience of professional writers. Both Jonathan and Gillian have a wealth of expertise, and a passionate commitment to promoting good writing, that will really help our students.”

Jonathan Gregson was born and raised in India. He read and taught history at Oxford and Queen's University in Canada before entering financial journalism. According to Jonathan’s referees, he is “an inspiring teacher, a very reliable and entertaining journalist” and the author of three highly regarded books on South Asia: Bullet up the Grand Trunk Road: 1,600 Miles across India and Pakistan on an Enfield Bullet (1997; Kingdoms Beyond the Clouds: Journeys in Search of the Himalayan Kings (2000); and Blood against the Snows: The Tragic Story of Nepal's Royal Dynasty (2002). He has built a reputation as an outstanding travel writer and broadcaster and he has won several awards for travel writing. He is also a commentator on South Asia for BBC programmes.

Jonathan will be based in the Drill Hall Library where he will be happy to see students on a one to one basis to help them with their academic writing.
