Clicking a category heading will reveal online links and resources. There are many such sites available, but as a starting point, the following sites cover a wide range of issues. Remember that these are written for students at many different levels; you may have to explore to find what's useful for you.

    If your keyboard skills are slowing down your use of the computer, try the Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor. This is widely available for purchase, and is accessible free for University of Kent students. To use the software from any University of Kent public access PC, follow:

Multimedia resources at the computing service

The Computing Service provides a wide range of documentation and provides support with the following multimedia tutorials:

  • Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor - learn to touch-type with this friendly typing tutor on disk, for beginners and improvers
  • Word-Shark - games to help with spelling and word recognition, for dyslexic students and those practising their English.
  • Words-Work - for a different approach to studying try this multi-sensory approach to improving study strategies. Includes tips on learning styles and memory tactics.
  • Gower Guide to Student Oral Presentations - boost skills and confidence as you prepare your presentation. (Available from any public access PC - from the Start menu choose Programs/Central Software/Making an Oral Presentation).
