Key Skills

LTB Paper 33/2001 refers.

What are Key Skills?

As defined by DfEE and QAA

Key skills are those fundamental, taken for granted, skills that we all use in carrying out a wide range of everyday tasks and activities, and as we learn new things. These generic skills are not only essential to effective learning and performance, they are also highly valued by employers who want flexible, adaptable individuals who are capable of identifying their own learning needs and in taking the initiative in continuing professional development (CPD).

These are the six key skills recognised by the Key Skills project at Kent. There are a great many other keyskills, some of these can be considered part of the above lists:

  • communication
  • information technology
  • numeracy
  • problem solving
  • team building
  • improving one's own learning and performance
