Stephen Ogden
Faculty Learning Technologist
Stephen joined the University of Kent in September 2007. His original studies were in Molecular and Cellular Biology and in 2002 obtained his MSc in Computing Science from Birkbeck College - University of London.
Stephen has has spent six years working exclusively within the education system, focusing on the delivery of teaching material through the electronic medium. He has worked for several Universities: Institute of Education - University of London, Imperial College - University of London, and The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) - University of London.
Stephen spent just over a year working at the Institute of Education, University of London as a training analyst, responsible for administering and delivering the staff and student computer training courses provided each term by the Information Services department.
More recently Stephen spent three years working as a Learning Technologist for Imperial College - University of London where he had responsibilities that included:
- maintaining and administering two different VLEs, including WebCT
- the production of electronic courseware for distance learning
- website development
Personal Interests
Stephen has a wide range of personal interests that mostly border on the side of being a computer geek, but he does like to take as many opportunities as possible to get out into the light of day, get some fresh air, and talk to real people.
Interests include, but are not limited to:
- Free and Open Source Software
- UNIX Computer environments
- Linux
- Apple hardware
- Computer Architecture
- Software Engineering
- Multi-platform application accessibility
- Mobile learning/handheld form factor usability
- Sitting in Costa drinking coffee and reading a book
- Attending extravagant dinner parties (if you are hosting any, remember to invite me!)
