Peter Baker is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist working for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the Clinical Lead for Learning Disability & Challenging Behaviour.

His special interests include positive behaviour support assessment and intervention with people with learning disabilities who present serious challenging behaviour, crisis management of challenging behaviour and community participation and integration of people with learning disabilities

His publications have included journal articles and book chapters on challenging behaviour, training, consent/capacity and adolescence. He is currently the senior editor of the International Journal of Positive Behaviour Support

Current research activity involves

  • the use of the Guernsey Community Participation and Leisure Assessment (GCPLA) (Baker, 2000), an assessment measure of community participation
  • the development of a model to be used in the identification and detection of those individuals who present serious challenging behaviour
  • the evaluation of the impact of training staff groups in management of challenging behaviour, in particular training in physical intervention and exploration of ways to influence carer's attributions regarding the causes of challenging behaviour.
