External Examiners Currently Appointed to Taught Courses of Study by the University of Kent

Fees and Expenses

Payment of fees and expenses will only be made once an annual report has been submitted. External Examiners are expected to advise us of their date of birth, home address and National Insurance Number (if they have one). Full bank account details must also be provided. Kent's Pay Office is unable to make payments without this information.

External Examiners may claim travel costs and other reasonable expenses. The mileage rate for use of private cars is 45p per mile but public transport should be used wherever possible. Original receipts for all expenditure must be attached to the payment request form.

*registered on module for which external examiner is responsible as at 1 April. If more than one examiner is responsible for a module then the fee will be split as advised by the Division.

Attendance Fee

Attendance Fee is payable when an External Examiner is required to visit the University for purposes other than work in connection with the Board of Examiners, for example to view performances by students.
