International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
The second of the Tizard Research Seminars will take place on Wednesday 17 October. It is being given by Jan Burns, Professor of Clinical Psychology at Canterbury Christ University. Prof Burns is also Head of Eligibility for the International Sports Federation for para-athletes with intellectual disabilities and part of an international research group which won the prestigious Podium Gold award for 'exceptional research' for their work on Sports classification for athletes with intellectual disabilites.
In September 2012, over 2.4 million people visited London to watch 4,200 athletes with disabilities compete on the world stage for sporting prestige. Among these were 120 athletes with intellectual disabilities, a group who since 2000 had been excluded from the paralympics, but had been reincluded for London 2012.
This Seminar will tell the story of how this has come about and some of the hopes for the future, building on this foundation.
Please note that this Seminar is being held at Keynes College Lecture Theatre 1 - 1700-1800hrs (and not as previously advertised at Kent Business School). It will be followed by a short informal drinks reception to which all are welcome to attend.
