We have received several enquiries from final year students who have been renting properties off campus. They have received a Council Tax bill for the period from 16.6.12 to the end of their tenancies and have asked us if this is correct.Unfortunately, as they are no longer students from 16.6.12, it is correct that they should be charged Council Tax for the period. It is very important that students ensure that they pay this bill (or claim Council Tax benefit for the period, if eligible see http://www.canterbury.gov.uk/main.cfm?objectid=5265 for further information) to prevent any risk to their credit histories in the future. For more advice and information please contact us at the Student Advice Centre on 01227 827724 (Canterbury students) or 01634 888855 (Medway students)
