London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will have a significant impact on the transport networks in both London and Kent. As a result, a number of staff may find this will affect their ability to travel either to and from work or as part of normal working practice. Although the key dates are those for the Olympics (27 July – 12 August) and Paralympics (29 August – 9 September), there may well be high levels of disruption in the intervening period.
Although the disruption in London is primarily in the east, all road, rail and tube networks will be affected stretching from Stratford to Wimbledon. In Kent, disruptions will range from severe traffic congestion to road closures, and train services to and from the county will be significantly affected.
In line with HR guidelines for working arrangements during this period, staff whose travel to and from work is likely to be disrupted during the games should discuss this with their line manager as early as possible to put in place alternative arrangements.
All staff should ensure they are familiar with the guidelines which also cover time off, working flexibly, volunteering as a games maker and permission to watch the games during working hours.
