new facilities now open
Great response to new facilities at Kent Sport.

 

We have had a great response from members to the the new facilities now open at Kent Sport.

Members queued at 7am on Tuesday the 07 May to try out the new facilities and to take advantage of the 50% off membership for the first 50 student, 50 staff and 50 community members to join Kent Sport.

Malcolm Thorne said ' The new Fitness Suite is much cooler, well laid out with a huge new range of equipment. Modern, clean and easy to use. Very Good!

The first members to use the new fitness suite and dance studio received a Kent Sport goodybag.

The 50 reduced memberships for staff and student have now all been sold but there are a few community memberships still available.

Membership to Kent Sport is still great value for money and is available from £56 for students and from £188 for staff.

 

Students can purchase Earlybird membership for the 2013/14 academic year from 01 June and save 10%.

new fitness classes
New classes at Kent Sport this summer

 

Kent Sport has introduced a number of fantastic new classes to the timetable.

 

These include Boxercise®, Spinning®, Cardio Tennis and Balance Bodies and they will be in the brand new studios at the Sport Centre on the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus.

Jeni Dexter, Kent Sport Studio Co-ordinator says, “We are excited to be adding these new fitness classes to the existing timetable and to be able to offer such a wide choice. As they are all included in the price of membership we encourage everyone to give them a go.”

Kent Sport members can book fitness classes up to seven days in advance by visiting the Sports Centre or Pavilion reception. PAYG participants can book up to three days in advance.

Fit 4 the beach winners announced.

 

9 lucky members have been chosen to take part in our 6 week fit 4 the beach promotion including a free fitness programme and 6 weeks fitness support.

The lucky winners have already started their fitness regimes and we will keep you posted on their progress on facebook and twitter.

The winners include 7 students and 2 staff members.


The student winners are Sammi Chan, Elliot Garder, Jennifer Laishley, Hanna Sainio,
Emma O’Driscoll, Susannah Parker and
Laura Tilston.

Staff winners are Heather Furguson: – Senior Lecturer in Psychology & Lyn Scarfe an Income Officer.

Introduction to Golf on Mondays from 5:30-6:30pm starting Monday 13 May 2013 at grass pitches.

Introduction to Tennis on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm starting Wednesday 15 May at the Indoor Tennis Centre.

Improvers Squash on Mondays from 1-2pm starting Monday 13 May at the Sports Centre.

advance booking
Advance booking of all dance and fitness classes from 04 March 2013

 

From Monday 04 March 2013 members will be able to book in advance for all fitness and dance classes.

Full members can book one week in advance, PAYG members can book 3 days in advance.

Bookings can be made at the Sports Centre or Pavilion receptions. Receipts are required as proof of booking and you should present these to the class instructor at the beginning of the class (duplicate receipts are available at reception if lost).

 

If you are no longer able to attend the class you must cancel your booking by contacting reception no later than 30 mins prior to the class start time. Failure to attend and/or cancel may result in a fine of up to £5.30 for each no show and your membership account will be limited until the outstanding fines are paid.

 

Indoor Tennis
Indoor Tennis at Kent

 

The new Indoor Tennis Centre at Kent will open on Monday 25 February 2013 and can be booked at the Sports Centre or Pavilion receptions. The centre includes 3 indoor tennis courts. The courts will be sprayed with a final coloured acrylic spray in the spring but the courts are available to use immediately.

The outdoor courts will open as soon as they can be resurfaced once the temperature increases.

 

Cardio suite opens
The new cardio and resistance suite opens at the Sports Centre
 

As part of the £4.8million redevelopment of the sports centre at the Canterbury campus, the new cardiovascular and resistance training suite will open on Thursday 17th January 2013.

The suite includes the latest hi-tech running machines, x-trainers, rowers and spinning bikes with HD screens featuring, TV, ipod docks and on screen professional coach for personalized workouts. Resistance equipment including bench, leg and chest press with lock ‘n’ load weight selection are also available.

The indoor tennis centre at the Pavilion will open in February and includes three indoor courts for tennis and netball as well as three refurbished outdoor courts.

The other facilities including the third sports hall, new dance studio and wellness and high performance training areas are due to open at the end of March 2013.

A new enhanced fitness suite; new larger dance studio, indoor tennis and netball courts, new multi-purpose sports hall and online & kiosk bookings.

Racket leagues & ladders

 

Racket leagues and ladders offer players of all standards an opportunity to play other players of a similar standard at their own convenience.

Ladders are available in Badminton, Squash, and Tennis and there is no limit to the amount of leagues and/or ladders you can join.

New Sports Development

 

As part of Kent Sports Olympic Legacy programme, the University and Kent Sport are investing £4.75 million in a major recevelopment of the sporting facilities on the Canterbury campus.

The new development is due for completion in 2013 and will include:

  • a significantly enhanced fitness suite with three distinct areas for general fitness, wellness/rehabilitation and high performance training. To include brand new CV equipment and a greater range of free weights and lifting platforms.
  • a third multi-purpose sports hall.
  • a larger dance studio that can be split into two for smaller, more intimate classes with enhanced lighting and sound.
  • a covered structure providing three indoor tennis / netball courts which can also be used for other activities.
  • a physiotherapy clinic linked to the new training facilities, providing a seamless pathway form acute injury to full fitness.
