Outdoor facilities
There are a range of outdoor facilities available at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus.
3G football pitch
Since the redevelopment of the playing fields complex in 2005, members now have access to a state-of-the-art 3G football pitch. This is full-sized pitch capable of holding standard league matches or four 5-a-side games during tournaments. It has full floodlighting and a wide concourse area with tiered seating.
The 3G Pitch is bookable for Kent Sport members (1h 30mins max. per booking). Please contact the Pavilion or Sports Centre to book.
A facility fee for non-members playing will be applicable.
Astro pitch
The astro-turf pitch was built during the redevelopment of the playing fields in 2005. It is a full size, sand-based pitch and can be used for football or hockey. It also has a wide concourse area with tiered seating.
The Astro Pitch is bookable for Kent Sport members (1h 30mins max. per booking). Please contact the Pavilion or Sports Centre to book.
A facility fee for non-members playing will be applicable.
Tennis/netball courts
The Sports Centre has a complex of seven tennis courts, adjacent to the synthetic pitches. Each court is full sized, and well maintained - the courts can be converted into netball courts and in addition this area also includes a recreational basketball court.
Grass pitches
The Sports Centre has plenty of grass pitches for its members to take full advantage of, they include:
- 3 grass soccer (match) pitches
- 1 grass soccer recreational pitch
- 2 grass rugby pitches
- 1 grass cricket square
Sports Pavilion
Opened in 2009, The Pavilion is the latest sports facility to be built on the University of Kent Canterbury campus.
Located at the outdoor playing fields complex, opposite Parkwood accommodation, it services all users of the grass and artificial pitches, and tennis/netball courts.
Visitors and users of the facilities can also enjoy The Pavilion’s superb Café Bar, situated on the first floor. With Sky T.V and viewing balconies overlooking both grass and artificial pitches, the Café bar has a varied menu including hot and cold drinks, and is a great place to socialise and relax.
Facilities include:
- 10 self-contained changing rooms with under floor heating
- 4 Officials changing rooms
- Disabled changing room
- Seminar/meeting room
- Sports development office
- Cafe Bar
- Viewing balconies overlooking both grass and artificial pitches
- First aid room
- Reception area
- Lobby with lift to first floor
