Introduction to the Faculty

The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises of the following Schools which are based at the Canterbury campus:  Anthropology and Conservation, Economics, Business, Law, Politics and International Relations, Psychology and Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research.  The following Centres are based at the Medway campus: Journalism, Sports Studies, and Professional Practice.  The Brussels School of International Studies also belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Traditionally, the Faculty of Social Sciences has maintained a strong reputation, and all Schools have elements of internationally leading research.  In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research was ranked fourth in the UK with a GPA of 2.95, and Kent Law School was ranked sixth with a GPA of 2.88.  The School of Economics was placed third in the UK for overall quality in both the 2009 and 2010 National Student Surveys; and the School of Psychology ranked first for student satisfaction out of all UK Psychology departments in 2010.
