Music and Audio Technology is a vibrant, inclusive community of academics, practitioners, and students who are passionate about all aspects of music and the music industry. Our degrees cover areas such as sound recording, music production, sound design, music performance, song-writing, composition and music business. 

We are interdisciplinary and collaborative, and we investigate the special connections music has with film, tv, interactive media and the wider creative industries. 

We have strong links with the UK music industry and regularly welcome internationally-renowned musicians, performers and industry experts, making you part of a wide professional network.

Our degree programmes

Our courses integrate the latest research into music, health and wellbeing into the curriculum. We work with local schools and community organisations on a range of creative, research and educational projects that explore music’s potential to create positive change.

Music Performance Scholarships are awarded each year to talented instrumentalists and singers, and the awards include tuition with experienced teachers.

Industry-standard facilities

Music and Audio Technology is located at the award-winning Historic Dockyard, Chatham. Just 35 miles from central London, the former naval dockyard regularly features in music videos, documentaries, TV dramas and blockbuster films.

As well as an inspirational setting for your studies, these atmospheric buildings also house state-of-the-art facilities. These include ensemble rehearsal spaces, practice spaces, iMac rooms, recording and post-production studios.

Our studios are equipped with the very latest technology from leading manufacturers including AMS Neve, Solid State Logic, Avid and Universal Audio. We also host an impressive multi-loudspeaker sound diffusion system, the Music and Audio Arts Sound Theatre (MAAST), which is used for events in the University and other venues in London and the South East.
