PL582 Paradoxes

 

Description

This module is an introduction to a range of philosophical issues surrounding the nature of paradoxes and their resolution.  Paradoxes have been discussed throughout the history of the subject and students will develop an understanding of what would constitute a solution to a paradox.  The Sorites, Liar and Surprise Examination paradoxes will be examined in detail and the philosophical progress on the solution of these paradoxes assessed.  This module is a natural complement to Logic, Philosophy of Logic or Philosophy of Language.
