Hispanic Studies

¡Bienvenidos! --- Welcome!

Antoni Gaudi sculpture, Barcelona

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world – outside Spain it is the official language of most countries in South and Central America, and is widespread in many parts of North America. The programme at Kent gives you the opportunity to explore the languages and cultures of Spain and Spanish America while developing your language skills. You can study Hispanic Studies at Kent whether you have got an A level or GCSE in Spanish, or whether you are a beginner. You can study either full-time or part-time

The programme offers some unusual features. You get the opportunity to spend your year abroad at university in Montevideo (Uruguay) and in Lima (Peru), as well as our exchange programmes with Spain. Our advanced language module in Stage 3 focuses on translation and interpreting – skills when you look for a job. We also offer the chance to learn Catalan language and culture and Portuguese. Our facilities include a wide range of TV satellite channels and audio, video and computer-assisted language learning facilities.

Kent was ranked 6th amongst the UK HE institutions for the quality of Iberian Studies courses (based on 94% satisfaction for FT, first degree students in Q22 - overall quality of the course at JACS level 3).

KENT was ranked 4th in the UK for Iberian Languages graduating students' employment prospects in the 2011 Independent Complete University Guide
