Dr Csaba La'da

Dr Csaba La'da was educated at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, at University College London and at Cambridge University. He has held prestigious Research Fellowships at Oxford, Leuven, Hamburg, the Warburg Institute and Vienna, and came to Kent from a Research Fellowship at the University of Manchester. 

Csaba's research interests are wide-ranging but mainly concentrate on the Hellenistic and early Roman world. His particular interests are in Papyrology and Hellenistic and Roman Egypt. 

In recent years, Csaba held a British Academy Small Research Grant to undertake a project entitled 'Greeks, Jews and Egyptians: An Alphabetically Arranged Tax List of a Multi-Cultural Village in Ptolemaic Egypt (P.Vindob. G60514-60518)'. 

For many years he was a member of The Oxyrhynchus Papyri Management Committee, The Egypt Exploration Society (London) and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Acta Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae (Budapest).   

Csaba has recently published a number of Greek documentary and literary papyri from Hellenistic and Byzantine Egypt in peer-reviewed journals Tyche (Vienna) and Rheinisches Museum für Philologie (Cologne). 

He is currently working on the publication of a Demotic Egyptian papyrus containing a funerary composition from the Roman period. He has recently completed a study of ethnic terminology in Hellenistic and Roman Egypt and has started work on a joint project with Dr D. Dana of CNRS, Paris on Thracians in Hellenistic Egypt.

Csaba is a member of the 'Ancient History and Archaeology of Egypt' research cluster and the Centre for Late Antique Archaeology.  

Csaba teaches on ancient Egypt and the Greek language.
