Who is eligible: UK and EU full-time undergraduates
The School of English at the University of Kent will be offering one scholarship to an applicant who demonstrates academic excellence.
This scholarship competition is open to all UK and EU full-time undergraduate students starting their courses in the 2010-11 academic year.
The scholarship is for £1,000 per academic year. It will be awarded for one year in the first instance and renewable for the duration of the applicant's undergraduate degree programme, normally 3 or 4 years; subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Criteria
Open to all UK and EU full-time applicants
The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who demonstrates outstanding intellectual and creative potential in English. Applicants should have attained, or be expected to attain, a minimum of 320 tariff points or equivalent.
At the point of application for the scholarship, applicants can EITHER: Write a critical analysis and appreciation of not more than 1,200 words on ONE of the following poems: Coleridge, ‘Frost at Midnight’; Hardy, ‘After a Journey’; Yeats, ‘Among School Children’ or Eliot,
‘Portrait of a Lady’. OR: Write an essay of not more than 1,200 words on the treatment of any ONE of the following in any ONE play by Shakespeare: Villainy; National Identity or The Role of Women in Society.
