University of Kent postgraduate research scholarship 2012

About

The School of Anthropology and Conservation is offering two scholarships.  These scholarships are open to all applicants for a PhD wishing to pursue research in the following fields: social anthropology, environmental anthropology, biological anthropology or biodiversity conservation. Preference will be given to strong applicants who wish to undertake interdisciplinary projects that bridge two or more of these areas of research and that capitalize on complementary supervisory expertise within the School.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a maintenance grant. The maintenance grant will vary in amount, but the maximum may be the equivalent of that offered by the Research Councils (£13,590 in 2011-12). Where the award is offered to an overseas student the recipient will have to cover the difference in fees from other sources.

These scholarships will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Criteria

Candidates must hold a Master's degree at distinction level in a relevant subject, or be able to demonstrate equivalent research or training experience to this level. The scholarship competition is open to all postgraduate research applicants. UK, EU and overseas fee paying students as well as full-time and part-time postgraduate research students are invited to apply.

How to apply

The scholarship is competitive, and students wishing to be considered need to have completed the full process outlined below by the closing date: Wednesday 14 March 2012

  1. Approach a potential supervisor within Anthropology or DICE, elaborate on your research plans and notifying your potential supervisor of your interest in a University Research Scholarship.
