Research excellence at the University of Kent
Our research funding comes through the Government’s dual funding system. We receive a block grant of around £8 million a year, based on the quality of our research judged by the Research Assessment Exercise and project-specific funding from the Research Councils and other research sponsors, including government bodies, industry and charities. Our project-specific research income was just over £8 million at the last RAE in 2001 and has grown since then year-on-year (by over 20% in each of the last two years alone) to just over £13 million in 2006/07, and is on course to rise again this year.
In the last full year (2006/07) around 45% of our research income (£5.8 million) came from the Research Councils, 27% (£3.6 million) from UK government bodies, 13% (£1.8 million) from UK charities and the rest from industry, the European Union and other overseas bodies.
Funding is essential for our research work and you can find searchable lists of all our published research online
