Using the Student Office

If you have a question or problem

The Student Office is your first stop should you have any queries or problems relating to your studies. You should also come to the Student Office if you wish to make an appointment with the Student Advisor.

We can help you with:

  • Timetable enquiries
  • Enquiries about the School of Psychology
  • Stage 2 seminar group allocation
  • Initial advice on academic and related matters
  • Literature and advice on the concessions procedure
  • Assistance with materials for final year projects

Please remember that the Student Office is here to help you as much as possible, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch should you have any problems – if we can’t help, we can direct you to someone who can!

You may also find our Frequently Asked Questions page helpful.

Submitting and collecting coursework

You will use the Student Office for handing in coursework for marking and to collect your coursework once it has been marked, unless otherwise instructed. If the Student Office is closed when you want to hand in work, you should post the work through the letter box in the door to the left of you as you face the counter – don’t worry, there is a bag attached to the other side to catch the work, so it won’t end up on the floor!

Please ensure that your work is stapled or clipped together securely if you hand your work in through the letter box.

If you wish to have a receipt for your work, please complete the receipt form which can be found in the racks outside the Office together with the cover sheets.

For further information on submitting your work see the link on our Study Skills page.

Notification of absence

You should contact the Student Office if you are likely to be absent for any reason, particularly if you need to apply for concessions to do with submission of coursework or non-attendance at exams.

If you are unable to attend a lecture, seminar, workshop or supervision, you should do the following.

1.

Notify the Student Office using the dedicated Email address psychattendance@kent.ac.uk. In the Email you need to state the following:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Module name and/or number
  • Skills workshop or seminar group number, time and day
  • Date of non-attendance
  • Reason for non-attendance
2.

If you are sick for more than 7 days (including the weekend) then you also need to provide a doctor's certificate or other documentary evidence to support your absence.

PLEASE NOTE: it is your responsibility to ensure that your attendance is recorded on the registers at monitored sessions. It is not possible for the School to amend registers after the event.

Please remember that if you are experiencing problems which you feel may interfere with your studies or if you are concerned about your progress generally you can make an appointment to see the Student Advisor or call in to one of her drop in sessions. The Student Advisor's contact details are available on her Web page.
