The School of Psychology comprises a broad, diverse community of researchers with backgrounds in social, cognitive, forensic, developmental, applied and experimental psychology. A dynamic culture characterises our research environment.
Research is organised into four core thematic groupings: Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Developmental Psychology. Through many international collaborative links and activities, our research forms an integral part of the international research community in social psychology and cognition.
In Social Psychology we have established an international presence in the topic areas of Prejudice, Inequality, Group Dynamics, and Social Motivation. In Cognition our research has an international reputation in the areas of Visual Cognition & Attention and Language & Communication.
The 2007 BPS Social Psychology Section Conference was held at Kent.
Several members of the Social Psychology Group were involved in organizing a range of symposia and workshops in 2006 - 2007.
Various members of the Cognitive Psychology group have recently secured funding from the ESRC and Leverhulme to examine applied cognition problems such as false memories in children and beliefs about offender.
Two recent ESRC grant have been awarded for research projects cutting across the Social and Cognition groups (on power and cognition and on values).
