Welcome
The aim of the Centre for the Study of Politics and Spirituality (CSPS) is to explore the interactions of spiritual experience, religious practices and political action involved in the formation of persons, communities and societies around the world. CSPS promote a close engagement with all aspects of politics and spirituality at the University by way of
Research: MA students, doctoral candidates and senior researchers
Events: Lunchtime seminars, The Anselm Lectures on Politics and Spirituality (a new public lecture series), conferences and workshops, with the participation of distinguished scholars and public figures
Publications: Books, scholarly articles and contributions to the printed media
By seeking to think anew about concepts and practices such as ‘faith’, ‘religion’, ‘fundamentalism’ and ‘secularism’, which have become distorted and misconstrued in both academic and public discourse, CSPS is unique in the UK. We are establishing close ties with similar centres in Europe and across the world, and we welcome contributions from students and scholars to our activities.
At a time when both secular ideologies and religious traditions are in crisis, CSPS aims to combine scholarly work with a forum for reflection on public debates and policy-making.
