The Kent SEPnet Astrodome is one of Kent's most advanced mobile planetariums, enabling groups of all ages to learn about astronomy and space science in a fully immersive digital environment. We currently offer three talks which can be customised to cover a wide range of learning outcomes:

The Night Sky:

Explore the wonders of the night sky as seen from your garden in this full-dome planetarium projection. Learn about the origins of astronomy, basic celestial mechanics and astronomical principles and how and when to observe some of the most spectacular night time objects with the naked eye.
Although the talk is aimed at all ages it includes many of the topics covered by Key stages 3 and 4 astronomy courses and acts as a excellent complement to classroom based learning. For more information please contact us.

The Exploration of Mars:

The planet Mars, with its deep red colour and hints of life past or present, has long captured the imagination of mankind. In this talk we explore the characteristics of our neighbouring planet and look at what we have learned from the dozens of spaceprobes sent to study it. Did life on the Earth originate on Mars?
The talk is presented as a wide-screen projection in the dome (rather than full-dome) and includes the latest high-resolution 3D anaglyphic images of the surface as well as a look at future plans by NASA and ESA to explore this fascinating planet.

Two small pieces of glass - The Amazing Telescope:

galileo

Two small pieces of glass is a full-dome show featuring computer generated graphics and music from the London Symphony Orchestra and was produced to celebrate the International year of Astronomy 2009.
The show is 25 minutes in length and follows two students as they interact with a female astronomer at a local star party. Along the way the students learn how telescopes work, the history of telescopes and major discoveries made by these instruments. Suitable for Key Stage 3 and below.

The dome can hold up to 30 students at a time and requires a power socket and an indoor floor space of 6mx6m and 3m high. It is ideally suited in a school hall/sports hall
