Communicating with members

During the past few years, the SLSA has been developing its links with members. All members receive a weekly email during termtime which keeps them up-to-date with events, courses, job vacancies, research funding and much more: not just in the UK but anywhere in the world.

All SLSA members can forward information to the webeditor for inclusion either on the bulletin board or in the weekly emails, or both. Non-members or organisations who have news of interest to SLSA members are also welcome to get in touch.

Members’ email network

The SLSA email network is a resource open only to SLSA members. It is not an interactive network and, because it is run by the National Academic Mailing List Service, known as JISCMAIL, it is completely spam-free. Therefore, if you opt to receive emails from the SLSA when you join, you will not receive any junk mail or discussion-type emails. You can ask to be taken off the email list at any time. What you will receive – usually once a week on a Friday – is an email containing:

  • news from the SLSA (if any);
  • information and links about the latest postings on the SLSA bulletin board;
  • information about newsletter deadlines as appropriate;
  • information about the SLSA directory when available.

Please contact the webeditor if you would like information circulated to SLSA members.

SLSA bulletin board

As mentioned above, members and non-members are welcome to contact the webeditor  to request items to be posted on the bulletin board. The board contains detailed information about events, jobs, courses, publications etc. The only criterion for posting is that the information must be relevant in some way to SLSA members. Attachments can be accepted for posting.

The role of the bulletin board is constantly under review and members who would like to set up discussion fora are welcome to contact either the webeditor or webmaster with their ideas.

Registration

In order to receive regular updates of new postings you need to register as a user. This is a very simple process: please follow the link for instructions.
