University makes an open invitation

Medway CampusThe University of Kent is staging an open day at its Medway campus on Saturday, 11 October.

Anyone thinking of entering higher education - whether as a full-time or part-time student - will have the opportunity to meet tutors, attend subject presentations, see sports and social facilities and take a tour of the multi-million-pound campus at Chatham Maritime.

Subjects on offer at Kent include Business, Journalism, Creative Events, Pharmacy, Law, Social Sciences, Social Work, Health and Social Care Practice, Criminal Justice Studies, Tourism and Dentistry.

Professor Clare Mackie, Pro Vice-Chancellor for the University of Kent, said the open day provided the perfect opportunity to have questions about university life answered by the experts. 'My message to potential students is that it's their day - all are welcome, as are family and friends, and I recommend making the most of it.

'We have a full programme of tours and events, and above all our visitors will get a real taste of what it's like to study at Kent's Medway campus.'

Subject desks will be staffed throughout the day and there will also be details on flexible learning courses for working people. Representatives from Student Finance, the Careers Advisory Service and the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service will be present.

Included in the day are tours around the award-winning £8 million Drill Hall Library, thought to be the longest open library space in Europe.

Students interested in either Music Technology or Sports Studies degree programmes can tour the purpose-built music studios and sports fitness suites, based in the University's £7 million Medway Building.

For the second year running, Kent has been rated the number one university in London and the south-east for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey.

The open day at Medway runs from 10am to 3pm, with light refreshments provided.
