A DVD has been released on the 179th Anniversary of the opening of the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. It will be launched at a Champagne Celebration in the University of Kent's Woolf College on Thursday 7 May at 6.30pm.
The evening, which is open to all, will feature an exhibition of archive footage and photographs of the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway, a presentation of the Railway's 'last remains' and talks from renowned lecturers, authors, historians and a model locomotive maker. Tickets are £4, available on the door.
The DVD titled The Story of the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway is the first in a series being produced by Harbour Heights, the University of Kent's Department of Electronics and Liz Valentine, a University of Kent graduate. It celebrates the fascinating saga of a pioneering railway which survived for 123 years.
John Batchelor, Senior Lecturer at the University's Department of Electronics said: 'We were delighted to be involved in this project. It is very rewarding to work with one of the University's many Multimedia graduates who has become a professional digital media designer. Liz not only provided technical expertise in this project but also the informative and enlightening narrative which brings the DVD to life'.
Ann Winter Managing Partner of Harbour Heights, said: 'We are very pleased to holding the celebration at the University of Kent as it has a fascinating connection to the Railway. The Canterbury and Whitstable line has a special place in the hearts of many local people and I am sure those attending will have both an informative and entertaining experience.'
