The Rt Hon John Redwood MP, former Cabinet Minister, writer and chair of the Conservative Policy Group of Economic Competitiveness, will give an open lecture at the University of Kent on Friday 22 February.
Titled 'Globalisation', his lecture will take place at 6pm in the Brabourne Lecture Theatre, Keynes College, on the University's Canterbury campus, and is free and open to all. There is disabled access to Keynes College and the lecture theatre.
John Redwood was head of the Downing Street policy unit 1983-85 and joined the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Wales in 1993 after earlier holding a ministerial post at the Department of Trade and Industry. He made two attempts for the leadership of the Conservative party, in 1995 and 1997. In September 2004 he returned to the Conservatives front bench team as Shadow Secretary of State for Deregulation.
His career in business and finance includes positions as Chairman of Norcros and as Executive Director of Rothschilds. He has been Non-Executive Chairman of Mabey Securities and Non-Executive Director of BNB Resources PLC. Since October 2003 he has been Non-Executive Chairman of Concentric PLC, a supplier to the world's truck and construction equipment industries.
He was educated at Kent College, Canterbury, and Magdalen College, Oxford.
