General Lord Dannatt, former head of the British Army, is to give the Eliot Annual Lecture at the University on Wednesday 8 February.
The lecture, titled Leadership in Turbulent Times', will take place in the Woolf College Lecture Theatre on the University's Canterbury campus at 6pm. Admission is free and open to all.
Richard Dannatt was a soldier for 40 years. After being commissioned into the Green Howards in 1971, he served in Northern Ireland, Germany, Cyprus, Bosnia and Kosovo. In 2006, he was appointed Chief of the General Staff, leading the Army through some of its most difficult years in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On retirement from the Army in 2009, Richard Dannatt became the Constable of the Tower of London and, in 2011, entered the House of Lords as a crossbench peer. He served as defence adviser to David Cameron until the 2010 general election. He is an adviser to a number of companies and a frequent commentator on defence and security issues.
Richard Dannatt is a Trustee of the Windsor Leadership Trust, which brings together top leaders from every sector to reflect on how they can benefit their organisations and wider society. He is also a Founder Patron of the service charity Help for Heroes.
