Kent celebrates new appointment to the Academy of Social Sciences

Professor Jan Pahl, Professor Emeritus of Social Policy at the University of Kent, has been appointed an Academician at the Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Pahl's appointment brings the University's total number of Academicians at the Academy to 13.

Based in London, the Academy of Social Sciences aims to promote social sciences in the UK for the public benefit. The members of the Academy are learned societies in social science in the UK and 500 individual social scientists. The process of nomination to the Academy is by rigorous peer review and focuses on outstanding achievement in the social sciences and commitment to the aims of the Academy.

The University's 13 Academicians are: Professor Dominic Abrams and Professor Diane Houston, Department of Psychology; Professor Mary Evans, Professor Chris Hale, Professor Jan Pahl, Professor Chris Pickvance and Professor Peter Taylor-Gooby, School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research; Professor Francis Green, Professor Tony Thirlwal and Professor Roger Vickerman, Department of Economics; Professor Jim Mansell, Tizard Centre; Dr Thomas Saalfeld and Professor Richard Sakwa, Department of Politics and International Relations.
