International study opportunities for Kent students

Skepsi Graduate ConferenceStudents at the University of Kent are being encouraged to deepen their subject knowledge and experience of other cultures through international study tours.

This year over 250 students have been on trips abroad, thanks to a new support programme. Set up by the University’s Faculty of Humanities, the scheme is designed to enhance the student experience and enhance students’ academic studies.

In support of the launch of the University’s new postgraduate Centre for Humanities in Paris at Reid Hall, the programme funded postgraduate students from the School of European Culture and Languages to organise and attend an international conference. The Skepsi graduate conference at the Paris Centre attracted a wide range of speakers from Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, France and the UK.

The scheme has also subsidised a range of study tours for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. These included visits to museums in Paris and Berlin by the School of Arts; Franco-Prussian War military sites by War Studies and History students; Moscow Art Theatre School by Drama students; plus tours of Barcelona by Architecture students and archaeological sites in south-west Turkey; and a trip to an Anthology symposium at Reid Hall for School of English students.

Dr Ana de Medeiros, Director of Internationalisation for the Faculty of Humanities, said: ‘The University plays a vital role in enhancing the student experience. The Faculty is dedicated to improving the opportunities of individuals, not just from an educational perspective, but from the breadth of experience. We aim to provide an international experience for all students in the Faculty.’
