University researchers encourage public participation in new Kent Survey of Health and Lifestyle

Researchers at the Centre for Health Services Studies (CHSS), University of Kent, are delighted with the current number of responses to the 2008 Kent Health and Lifestyle Survey but remind anyone who has received a questionnaire that the deadline for returns is fast approaching.

Findings from the survey, which has been sponsored by Kent County Council, will help the NHS and local government target money and services to local needs. The focus this year is on exercise and physical activity.

Linda Jenkins, Public Health Specialist at CHSS and a co-ordinator for the Survey said: 'This is a big survey for Kent, going out to almost 12,000 people, and it is important that we receive as many replies as possible. In fact, this survey is the only means of gathering information on exercise and it will increase our understanding of issues such as obesity.'

Linda also emphasised that the information the team will receive could lead to major quality of life improvements for many people in the county. 'So, if anyone has not yet returned their questionnaire, we would encourage you to please do so as soon as possible.'

The results of the previous (2005) survey provided important data on physical activity, obesity in the general population and those who act as unpaid carers. The public's responses also contributed to other important policy areas such as mental health.

Results from the 2005 Kent Survey of Health and Lifestyle can be found on the CHSS website
