Europe Day at the University

The University of Kent, the UK's European University, celebrated Europe Day on 9 May with a series of events at its Canterbury campus.

These included a special menu featuring Italian, Greek, Spanish, German and French cuisine at the Gulbenkian Café Bar from 12-2.30pm, live music with a European flavour and games of pétanque on the green outside.

Staff from the University's European Office were also on hand to explain its activities with mainland Europe, including: its expanding range of programmes with a particular European focus across most subject areas; its increasing number of dual qualifications with European partners at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and study or work abroad possibilities under the Erasmus Programme, through which the University exchanges some 400 students per year with partner institutions throughout mainland Europe.

All students, staff and members of the community were invited to attend.

Penny Pratt, Head of the University's European Office, said: 'This celebration of Europe Day is a double celebration for us: being part of the European Union and, of course, our position as the UK's European University - a position that in part stems from Kent being the only UK university to have a campus in Brussels, and its collaborations with leading European universities including the unique Transmanche partnership.'
