Two composers and two Cathedrals provide the theme for this year's Colyer-Fergusson Concert on Saturday 1 March, with over 250 University musicians performing in the magnificent setting of Canterbury Cathedral's Nave. The evening begins with a performance of Schumann's 'Rhenish' Symphony, with its solemn fourth movement inspired by the awesome Gothic architecture of Cologne Cathedral. That composer's tragic death in 1856 was the initial catalyst for his close friend, Johannes Brahms, to compose his choral masterpiece, the German Requiem, which will be performed in the second half of the concert. The University's Chorus and Symphony Orchestra will be joined by two outstanding soloists, soprano Anne Osborne, and baritone Benjamin Bevan, and the concert will be conducted by Director of Music, Susan Wanless.
The concert begins at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.45pm).Tickets £22.00, £18.00, £14.00, £10.00, £8.00 are available from the University Music Office, Tel. 01227 827335, email Musictickets@kent.ac.uk (credit/debit card payment available) and Canterbury Bookings Box Office, 12/13 Sun Street, The Buttermarket, Canterbury, Tel. 01227 378188.
