The Lord Watson of Richmond CBE, International Chairman Emeritus of the English Speaking Union will give a University of Kent Open Lecture on Friday 5 December at 6pm.
Titled The Voyage of English as a global language, Lord Watson's lecture will take place in the Brabourne Lecture Theatre, Keynes College, on the University's Canterbury campus. The lecture is free and open to all. There is disabled access to Keynes College and the lecture theatre.
Lord Watson studied at the University of Cambridge before becoming BBC general trainee. During his extensive broadcasting career he was a regular presenter of The Money Programme and Panorama, a reporter on LWT, Radio 4 and the World Service, as well as a writer and presenter of award winning documentaries.
Lord Watson's business career has included four years as CEO of the advertising agency, Charles Barker City and over ten years as the European Chairman of Burson Marsteller. He is the Executive Chairman of CTN Communications.
He holds a range of visiting and honorary posts at universities in Britain and abroad, including: Visiting Fellow at Oriel College Oxford and an Honorary Fellow of Jesus College Cambridge. His publications include: Europe at Risk, The Germans: who are they now?, Thatcher and Kohl: Old Rivalries Revisited and Jamestown: The Voyage of English.
