University launches Autumn Term Open Lecture Series

The University of Kent's Autumn Term Open Lecture Series begins on Wednesday 15 October with the Keith Tucker Memorial Lecture, which will be given by Mike Kennedy CBE.

Titled Eurojust - its role in tackling transnational crime in Europe and elsewhere, Mr Kennedy's lecture will take place at 6pm in the Brabourne Lecture Theatre, Keynes College, on the University's Canterbury campus. The lecture is free and open to all. There is disabled access to Keynes College and the lecture theatre.

Founded in 2001, Eurojust, the EU's cross-border crime unit, has helped to solve many cases in its short history. These include bringing a Europe-wide serial killer to trial in Germany, dismantling a credit card fraud network in Romania and arresting 35 suspects for armed robberies in Italy.

In 2001, Mr Kennedy became the UK's representative of the Provisional Eurojust before being elected President of Eurojust in 2002. In November 2007, he returned to the Crown Prosecution Service as the Department's Chief Operating Officer.

Other speakers in the University of Kent's Open Lecture Series include: Professor Andrew Gray, Emeritus Professor of Public Management; Professor David Blanchflower, Professor of Economics; Sir John Tusa, Writer and Broadcaster; Lord Watson of Richmond CBE, Chairman of CTN Communications and Daniel Lorson, Head of Marketing, Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin Champagne Reims.
