Kent criminologists at US sociological conference

Fellows on the Doctorate in Cultural and Global Criminology (DCGC) programme took part in a presentation at the American Society of Criminology conference.

Kent Criminology Fellows Jairo Matallana Villarreal and Maria Jose Cornejo were joined on the panel by on 20 November by Fellows from the three partner institutions on the collaborative three-year postgraduate DCGC programme. The partners are: Utrecht University (Netherlands), University of Hamburg (Germany) and Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary).

The panel participants presented three papers. These were entitled: Deviant attitudes in the City of London: financial innovation and the automation of speculation; Maps of State abuse and resistance: Illegal arbitrary detentions by the military in Bogotá, Colombia; Criminalization of Dialogue; and Diversion and supply of lifestyle pharmaceuticals.

The DCGC partnership aims to examine issues using a critical interdisciplinary study of both social science and law-based dimensions of criminology.
