On Friday 13 January, the University welcomed almost 150 colleagues from Kent-wide NHS research and development departments to a special research day at its Canterbury campus.

Sponsored by KentHealth, the event included speakers from East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust, Kent & Medway Partnership Trust, the National Institute for Health Research, Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Greenwich and the University of Kent.

The Research Design Service South East provided researchers with opportunities to learn more about its activities and to discuss their research ideas.

The day’s workshops considered topics that ranged from collaboration with industry, patients as partners in research, collaborative research in health and social care, clinical and academic collaboration, and the future of research delivery for health professionals in Kent.

Dr Tim Doulton, Consultant Nephrologist, Chair of the Kent Wide Research Group Steering Committee and Director of Research & Development, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, provided the welcome and closing remarks.

Dr Peter Nicholls, Dean of KentHealth, described the event as ‘inspiring and uplifting – a real celebration of the intensity and impact of collaborative health-related research in Kent’.

During his address, Dr Nicholls also also praised the willingness of all of the institutions attending to work collegially to achieve their research goals, sharing knowledge and expertise with the overall aim of improving outcomes for patients in our region.

KentHealth is the University’s one-stop-shop for health and social care expertise in research, training, innovation and partnerships with the regional NHS. A key aim is to bring the region’s healthcare agencies together to promote collaborative practice.
