Topical monthly lectures in the Parrot pub in Canterbury are the latest outreach events in the University’s Q-Step programme.

Kent’s pubTALK 2016 programme starts on Tuesday 2 February, 7pm to 9pm, with a lecture with the theme ‘Between a rock and a hard place’.

Welfare tourism, swarms of immigrants, a drain on already scarce jobs and housing are all commonly used descriptions of what immigration means for the UK.

The pubTALK lecture breaks down these narratives and analyses them with a view to understanding what drives them. Then the floor is opened up for discussions over drinks.

This event is free to attend but as space is limited, let the organisers know at qstep-info@kent.ac.uk

pubTALK will be followed by more informal talks about real-world issues, held on the first Tuesday of every month at The Parrot 1-9 Church Lane, Canterbury, Kent CT1 2AG.

The University of Kent is one of just 15 leading universities to have been selected as a Q-Step centre and was awarded £19.5m to deliver training and work-placement opportunities for students.

The UK developed Q-Step to address a nationally-recognised shortage of social science graduates with statistical skills.
