'Universities are essential for modern knowledge economy'

On 17 March, Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow participated in a panel discussion at the Guardian's Vice-Chancellors' Dinner 2015.

Her fellow panellists included: Jonathan Freedland, Executive Editor of the Guardian; Greg Clark MP, Minister for Universities, Science and Skills; John Cridland, Director General, CBI; and John Newbegin, Chair Creative England.

Dame Julia made a strong case that universities are essential for any modern knowledge economy by transforming lives through world-leading research and creating economic, social and cultural impact on society.

She also emphasised the importance of continuing investment in world competitive education and research as ‘supporting universities is supporting the future of the UK’.
