Open Lecture on Christopher Marlowe

Allie Burnett

The 50th anniversary Festival of English continues this week with an open lecture on Christopher Marlowe by Dr Sarah Dustagheer.

To celebrate the University of Kent’s 50th anniversary the School of English is hosting the festival throughout 2015.

The Open Lecture Series is a celebration of the rich literary and cultural heritage of the city of Canterbury and is free and open to all.

Dr Sarah Dustagheer will present her paper entitled ‘The Muses’ Darling: Marlowe in Performance’ on Tuesday 10 March at 6pm in Grimond Lecture Theatre 2. Wine reception to follow.

The paper will consider Marlowe’s transition to the theatre world from his early life in Canterbury and Cambridge and will explore a very different performance tradition to the one of heroic male leads, mighty lines and amphitheatre staging, examining a play overlooked in Marlowe’s canon: Dido, Queen of Carthage.
