A special event will follow the live coverage of the Rosetta mission from the University's Centre for Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences.

The Rosetta mission to comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko reaches a crucial milestone today.  The Philae lander has successfully separated from Rosetta and is on its way to the surface of the comet. Landing will happen at around 4pm today (UK time).

Scientists Dr Stephen Lowry and Professor John Todd from the University’s Centre for Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences, who have both been involved in aspects of the expedition, will be available at a special event which will follow the live coverage of the landing attempt.

Dr Lowry is involved in the OSIRIS optical camera on the orbiter and Professor Todd is involved in one of the science instruments on the lander (Ptolemy).

There will also be a live feed from the European Space Agency, and short presentations from Dr Lowry and Professor Todd about their involvement.

Both scientists will be available to answer questions about the mission.

The event takes place today (Wednesday 11 November), Ingram building room 110,  2pm-5pm. It is free and open to all.
