Two academics from the School of History helped in the making of the first episode of a new series of Britain’s Most Historic Towns.

The first episode on Saturday 18 May will put the spotlight on wartime Dover and features Second World War expert Dr Juliette Pattinson being interviewed by presenter Professor Alice Roberts.

Lecturer Dr Edward Smalley, also of the School of History and an expert in British military history, was academic consultant for the episode, which will tell the story of Wartime Britain by studying the history of Dover, the town that found itself on the frontline in the struggle against Nazi Germany.

Britain’s Most Historic Towns will screen at 20.00 on Channel 4.
