A workshop is taking place for anyone interested in the use and abuse of statistics and numbers.

The two-part workshop, at Canterbury campus, is being hosted by the University’s Q-Step Centre and will focus on crime statistics. The first workshop, on Tuesday 16 September from 6-8pm, will include a presentation by Alex Stevens, Professor in Criminal Justice.

All attendees will be offered full copies of the research data and worksheets, detailing example statistics tests that can be used for analysis. This will be used to help publish a comprehensive report by the end of January 2015, which will be worked on in the second workshop early next year.

The two-part workshop will improve participants’ understanding of how to analyse and interpret what is often presented as ‘hard statistical facts’. It will also provide an opportunity to meet other people and help build a community for studying social statistics, open to anyone regardless of experience or contribution.

If you have any questions or would like to book a place on the workshop, please contact Dr Trude Sundberg or Keli Jenner on qstep-info@kent.ac.uk.
